Reptile-1-30-12 by ReptileCynrik Reptile-1-30-12 by ReptileCynrik
My good friends always suggest I should do more sketches… or more pencil drawings, anyway. So I did a small doodle during the last weekend. Okay, first traditional artwork of “Reptile” in 2012! ^^”

This picture has two very special aspects:

1) First of all, the title. I’ve not become “lazy” and will NOT number my artworks consecutively from now on. But when I did this head shot of Reptile, I suddenly thought… why should I give it any special title? I want YOU to think about a fitting title or content yourself!! So, what could Reptile think about in this particular moment? I’m curious to read your ideas. :D

2) Secondly, this drawing may be a “pencil sketch” or a “lighting-shading study” if you like… so, is it a sketch? Shall I put it into “scraps”? No. I think it’s good enough to show it in my normal gallery!

Done with one HB pencil.
Working time: 30 minutes!
Size: 15x15 cm

Drawing Đ Patrick Reichel aka :iconreptilecynrik:

I'm struck by this. Very handsome... and a tantalizingly REAL likeness. Looks like you had him in the room to sketch, or as if you were sketching yourself in the mirror, in a manner of speaking. I would really believe he is an actual person...

Sorry, words can't express how much I like this. I just love it.

Hrhrhrhrhrhrhrhrhrrrr... yeah, it's like a "real" portrait. It would we really cool though, if he was real and in my room.   :3
Thank you very much for the nice comment!

I have to say that for reasons beyond my feeble mind, Reptile appears more alive in this sketch than any other pieces of your work I have seen yet!!!

The "life like" appearance... yes, I figured that, too. It's because of the PENCIL PORTRAIT, eh? ;)
I'm sure that doing pencil portraits of people/creatures is the best way to show them in a more or less "real" way.

I guess it is easier for an artist to monochromatically convey lifelike shading whilst the organically smooth asymmetrical appearance adds to the overall presentation with an extra emphasis on the eye as the cherry on top.

That is a very well done portrait of Reptile. (It definitely doesn't belong in scraps. :) )

It's nice to see him make an appearance this year. I just hope that one day I can draw that well.

As for what he might be thinking about...well, he's away from home a lot on quests, I would think, being as he's the leader of his people (if I remember correctly). Perhaps he's thinking back on his family and dreaming of when he can once again be with them.

This is to me an excellent portrait head shot of you in black and white pencil art work very detailed. I do think this image is just great in your normal gallery, it adds a bit of contrast from the more common digital colored images you have. I do like your highlight details as well like the fact how much Reptile has seen war as bases on the cracks I see on the first spike coming out of his head; plus the look of natural wear of the scales on his face, or that is the illusion to me based on the texture of the paper to the graphite. Now to me based on reptiles facial expression and the way of the eyes he is either looking at something curiously or is deep in thought like :the inconceivable mystery of what is life:, or something like :all theses years of war and I have yet to find a mate: etc. Antways though I like the work it is very well done indeed. :)

I'd say you made a great impression. I have a character who appears as the antagonist in my comic(that I haven't posted yet) who is practically a dragon-like man without wings. The way you drew the jaw on this particular picture really gave me a better idea for drawing his face, so I'd definitley say you made more that just a great impression. I'll be looking forward to your future posts!

It definitely is good enough to stand side by side with the rest of your gallery. As a lighting study, this is great! It really adds dimension and shape to the subject. I envy your eye for shading.

Man, if you say thatīs a sketch, then whatīs a pencil artwork? ^ ^° This deffinitly qualify as a pencil work than a simple sketch. Wow, I must say you did an excellent work showing that the source of light is in the lower part on his left side. You capture the shading pretty nice, and the pencilīs strokes looks soft and with a great quality.

In other words, I like it that much heh ^ ^ Great Work Patrick, and I agreed with that friend of yours, some pencil drawing from you could be so interesting.
